Mission
Fostering protection and appreciation of a unique Great Lakes coastal dune swale through stewardship and education.
The Stewards of Bete Grise Preserve (SBGP), is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization. SBGP was formed by the Houghton Keweenaw Conservation District in 2009 to be a friend’s organization to raise funds to support the care and stewardship of the Bete Grise Preserve. SBGP pays for insurance for BGP and toilet facilities at the main parking area at Bete Grise South during the warmer months. In 2014 and 2016, SBGP hosted dedication ceremonies for additions to BGP and continually plans new community activities. SBGP has helped fund enhancements including signs and boundary markers, a safer footbridge, and the Botany Trail at Bete Grise South. Future plans include new signs and sign updates, kayak and canoe launch sites, and other public activities.
The Stewards of Bete Grise Preserve is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Your donations are for stewardship of the Bete Grise Preserve. Please make checks out to SBGP and mail to the address below.
